Annual General Meeting minutes June 25 2006
Green Island Club House
The meeting was called to order at 10:15 AM. There were 36 people present.
Chris Campbell introduced the Association and its formation, beginning with a meeting of interested parties in September, 2005. This resulted in the appointment of a Founding Committee who worked on a Mission Statement and By-Laws.
Our priorities and objectives were discussed along with the committees already formed:
- Membership: Mary Campbell
- Communication: Penny Love, Meghan Masterson, Ron Ingram
- Environmental: Claude Lorange, Meghan Masterson
- Land Use Planning: Chris Campbell
- Taxation: Pieter Folmer, Chris Campbell, Ron Ingram
Anyone interested in joining a committee is urged to do so.
The question of SILCA, and how our associations are different, was raised and discussed.
The slate of officers was presented and consists of:
- President: Chris Campbell
- Vice-President: Claude Lorange
- Secretary: Mary Campbell
- Treasurer: Pieter Folmer
The floor was opened for nominations and, as there were none, Theresa
Turcotte Lessard moved and Barbara Cresswell seconded, that the slate be accepted as presented and all approved.
The By-Laws were presented and discussed, with an amendment suggested by Ross Hamilton. Under the section, Executive, item 2 has been clarified to read: The Board shall consist of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and eight (8) appointed Directors.
Marlene Calder moved and Lenny Folmer seconded to accept the By-Laws as amended. The motion was passed.
The floor was opened for volunteers to join the Board of Directors. Our board now consists of:
- Geoff Cresswell
- Penny Love
- Meghan Masterson
- Suzanne Causse
- Ted Fairhurst
- Ron Ingram
The Municipal Council will be holding their July 15th meeting at the Club. It will be followed by lunch and an opportunity for lakers to present their concerns and needs to the Council. This is a real opportunity for our voices to be heard and so, it has been suggested that presentations be prepared by individuals to be delivered at the meeting, with paper copy to be given to the mayor.
A discussion of our priorities ensued with the following presentations to be made:
- Kelly’s Creek Water – volunteer needed
- Boat Traffic – Bill Clelland
- Parking Lot and Marina Security – Pieter Folmer
- Maintenance of Wharves at the Village and Foot- Mary Campbell
- Taxes and Budget – Chris Campbell and Pieter Folmer
- Barge for Trash – Ron Ingram
Volunteers to help on these committees were solicited.
Councilman, Richard Lessard, spoke on the advances being made on a Fire Protection Plan.
He also said he would look into the question of elevated fees being charged for seasonal residents to use the public library in the village.
There was discussion of creating a list of Lakers who are qualified to help individuals in case of an emergency. It was agreed that the idea was a good one and would be discussed again.
There was an interest in learning about the different levels of government in Quebec that have jurisdiction over our area and how best to communicate with them.
A meeting is to be held in the municipal center on Wednesday, July 12 at 5:00 PM to discuss new regulations governing the use of properties with a slope of more than 30 degrees. The mayor asks that all be encouraged to attend.
The next membership meeting will be held in the Municipal Center in the village on Saturday, July 22 at 10:00 AM.
There being no further business, Theresa Turcotte Lessard moved, and Judy Layton seconded, that the meeting be adjourned at 11:45 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Campbell
Secretary
